Freaking out – Day 3

Today was boxing and it felt good not to move heavy things around. It was also some solid stress relief to beat the ever living hell out of the heavy bag. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get some aggression out.

Started with 4, 3 minute sets of jump rope, 30 seconds rest. Then I wrapped my hands and did 2 rounds of shadow boxing (3 minutes, 30 second rest). After that I moved onto the heavy bag for 4 rounds of 3 minutes punching, 30 seconds rest. Total smoker that portion. I alternated sets between working speed and angles from the outside (mostly jabs and crosses) and working power up close (mostly hooks and upper cuts). Great way to split things up and work two different styles. Next was 3 rounds on the speed bag, again at 3 minutes with 30 second rest. Finally I did another round of shadow boxing. Then some light ab work, stretching and home. All in all a quick work-out that kept the heart rate up and has helped me feel much looser.

After 3 days, I’m feeling good and keeping to my goals (had a potential temptation for a work happy hour, but I resisted). It’s great to be back in the gym now on a regular basis, having been back on a regular basis for like 6 weeks. I feel like I either intimidate or impress people at the gym. It might be a little bit of both, but I know it used to be described as “scaring the locals”. I don’t know what it is about a 6’3″ (almost) 270lb guy walking around sweating and working his ass of that’s so scary… I’m really nice when you talk to me. Maybe it’s the I’m-going-to-dominate-everything-in-here-and-you-can’t-stop-me look in my eyes. Or maybe it’s the fact that I’m a big, sweaty, strong guy who’s quiet and just works. Not sure, but it would be nice to have  a gym buddy other than the cleaning guy (who’s name I can’t remember for the life of me, I think it’s Abdula) to chat with every now and then. Okay, that’s it for my rambling tonight, more to come tomorrow as I face my first weekend of serious temptation to deviate from the plan. And possibly some commentary about a few lookers at the gym.
