The CrossFit Diaries: Manic Monday

My birthday weekend was amazing. Just an absolute great time filled with everything I could have wanted, plus a few surprises. I was torn on what to do on Monday. I thought about doing the 6 am class since I didn’t do anything on Sunday, but instead stuck to my Monday evening plan. It was obviously a quick turnaround to go from work, to the gym then race home for the Packer game, but I made it. The game sucked, but my workout was good, so there’s that. Here’s the fun we had Monday night:

Strength/Skill:

Back Squat- 3 x 5 (add 5-10 lbs from last week)

Press- 3 x 5 (add 5 lbs from last week)

Workout of the Day:

For time:

21-15-9

Wall Ball

Burpee

I wasn’t thinking and didn’t bump my squat weight up enough. I did 315 last week and bumped it up 20 this week to 335. I actually did my last set at 355 which is what I probably should have done the whole time. Oh well, next week I’ll try to remember to bump it up to 365. I’m hoping to squat over 400 by the time the squat weight building is over. We’ll see if I get there. For the press, I did 160, which was a good weight. I’ve had some trouble with my shoulders, so the strength there will be appreciated, but is going to come at a much slower pace. Looking forward to getting better in both.

The WOD was awesome. I was in the second group of people and after watching the first group was not looking forward to doing it. I was with 3 other guys who are all pretty experienced and in really good shape, so I thought that they’d just smoke me from a time perspective. Needless to say I was shocked when I finished 3rd, and only 2-5 seconds after the guy who finished 2nd. This was my first big “breakthrough” in CrossFit and it felt awesome. I’m looking forward to hopefully see more of these as I begin to get in better shape, but it was definitely nice and a surprise to do as well as I did.

I might go for a swim tonight to help continue to build my cardio endurance, and to help my body begin to get used to being worked 5 days a week. We’ll see. Either way, I’m feeling top notch right now.

Stay classy.
