The CrossFit Diaries: Pre-Holiday Ramp Up

After a week off from deer hunting and then traveling out to LA for my cousin Jenika’s wedding (which was absolutely amazing and will easily be the standard to which I hold all future weddings I attend), it was great to get back to the gym. I wasn’t really able to get in until Wednesday, but it sure was nice to get back last night. Here’s what I had coming:

Strength/Skill:

4 Rounds of:

1a. Deadlift x 8 reps

1b. Pull Up Strength Development

1c. Weighted FLR Hold x 30 secs

Workout of the Day:

3 Rounds:

15 Toes to Bar (sub 10 v-ups)

15 Push Press (95/65)

15 Front Squats (95/65)

Deadlift was solid and it was nice to go to a higher number of reps compared to what we were previously working on. I was actually surprised by my pull ups, as I was knocking out sets of 8 without too much difficulty. It’s great to see the strength and development really starting to come through there. The weighted FLR was not too difficult, but it was a  nice switch up. Overall I was pretty rested, even though I did a rowing workout in the morning and swam the night before.

The WOD was tough, but awesome. First round I did toes to bar for all 15. I was surprised by that as I’ve had trouble with them. I kind of got in a rythm for the first 10 and knocked them out quickly. The last five were a struggle, but I got through them. My form really suffered for the last five, so I went with v-ups for the last two rounds. Push press was good and front squats were tough. It was a really solid anaerobic workout and at the end I just collapsed. I finished 3rd (a shock to me).

It felt good to get back to the grind and I’m looking forward to going back tonight and then again Friday. This will be a good test for me to see how I’ll be able to handle the upgrade in membership to unlimited days per week. I know I can do it, it’s all a matter of balancing the rest and nutrition as well. I’m looking forward to it, particularly with the impending holidays.

Stay classy.
