The CrossFit Diaries: 2 is Enough… 5 is Better

Squats Monday. Snatches Tuesday. My legs were a little tight heading into last night. Nothing crazy or unheard of, but definitely a tight. They loosened right up in warming up, but I could feel them throughout the day. A nice little reminder of what I had done to them the previous two days. I knew it wasn’t going to get any better when I saw what we had in store for Wednesday:

Deadlift- 4 x 8

* Work handstand push up strength between each set *

Workout of the Day:

Complete as many rounds as possible in 12 minutes of:

12 Overhead Squats

12 Burpees over Barbell

I didn’t have a record setting or earth shattering day on deadlifts, but I did manage to get a weird compliment. I worked up to 365 lbs. During one of my sets working up, Marcus looked at me after I finished (I think it was with 345 lbs) and said “You make lifting that much weight look easy.” I had to laugh at that because 1. it wasn’t really that tough and 2. it is how most of the lifts I do look. I’m going to take a second to brag. Being as big as I am, I just naturally am able to lift more than just about everyone there on pretty much every lift. And when I stay at the heavy weight other guys are doing, it’s tough but not necessarily challenging, so I make it look easy when others are struggling. Then those guys go on to kick my ass in the WOD. It is just the nature of the beast. I make them better by pushing them to lift heavier and they make me better by trying to keep up with them in things I generally am not good at. That’s the beauty of CrossFit.

For the WOD I knew it was going to be a beast simply because my arch-enemy was in them. I jokingly said before that I was going for two completed rounds. A nice easy 6 minute pace per round. I lied and did 5 complete rounds and could have knocked out some more OHS, but I really pushed to finish off the last set of burpees and wasn’t sure I’d be in good form on the OHS. Better to not push it and avoid injury than go too far and hurt myself. It’s a fine line between going hard and being reckless. I think I toed the line well last night.

Overall, my legs are feeling all this pushing. Also, with the diet coming back around, I’m really seeing some myself slimming down. Not sure if the scale says that, but I can visibly see differences. I just need to stick to the program and everything will fall in place. Looking forward to a workout tonight that is not going to kill my legs.

Stay classy.
