The CrossFit Diaries: Infinite Reps

If Monday was a Norman Rockwell painting type day at the gym, then Tuesday was a glimpse into the spring. It warmed up to 40 degrees and I swear everyone forgot there was still over a foot of snow on the ground. I saw people running outside in t-shirts and shorts. I get it, it is warmer out, but for goodness sake, it’s not spring yet. Cool your jets with the t-shirt and shorts though. It’s warmer, but we’re still in winter here. At least wait until you can start seeing some grass on the ground before you get all crazy with this stuff.

Strength/Skill:

10-15 minutes to build to a heavy complex of 2 Push Press + 2 Push Jerk

Partner 2: Complete max reps Push Press until partner finishes

I knew going into the strength portion that I would be able to get a good weight up, I just wasn’t sure where I’d land. I figured I’d get 245 lbs+, so that was where I was aiming to end up. I finished at 255 lbs, which was just about right. I probably could have pushed for another 10-20 lbs, but I was happy to be where I was. I was especially happy since I knew we would doing a figurative unlimited reps for the WOD. Good strength work and my shoulders keep on getting better, which I can’t complain about.

I knew the WOD was going to be tough for two reasons. 1) I was in early and saw how the prior class was dealing with it. I think only 1 or two groups finished under the time cap. 2) I wanted to pair up with Barrett, which is immediate grounds for a tough day at the office. Well I can say we beat the time cap handily, as we finished in 14:25 which crushed everyone else in the class by at least 2 minutes. We flew through it. It also felt like unlimited reps and we did it with 135 lbs. Barrett was setting the pace on the push press as I started on the rower. He went 17, 11, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15 and 15 (I believe). I went 17, 11, 15, 15, 12, 10, 10 and 10. It was nutty and my shoulders were absolutely smoked at the end. It was fun though as we really did push each other pretty hard through the whole workout, as proven by the 14 minute time to complete.

We finally have some weight pulling exercise today, so that will be a nice change from all the pushing on Monday and Tuesday.
