The CrossFit Diaries: Shortened Open

I decided to switch things up and get in my workout this morning instead of tonight. Just opens up my schedule and makes life easier. I came in a little sore from Thursday, but overall ready and rearing to get to it.

Strength/Skill:

Clean and Jerk 1 clean + 2 split jerks

Workout of the Day:

Abbreviated Open Workout 11.5

Complete as many rounds as possible in 15 minutes of:

5 Power Clean (145/100 lbs)

10 Toes to Bar

15 Wall Balls

I was able to get some quality clean and jerk work in this morning. The overhead squat work we did with the snatches the other day has dramatically improved my ability to get into a full front squat when cleaning. It’s great to know that I can feel comfortable in the full front squat on my cleans. If there is one thing that will bring my clean weight up, it will certainly be the ability to go into a full front squat. I worked up to 245 lbs, which was less than I did last Friday, but was a good weight and really gave me the opportunity to work on form and technique.

A couple of notes on the WOD: 1) It is a previous open workout, so it is good practice. 2) It was abbreviated from 20 minutes to 15 minutes. 3) 15 minutes is still a really long time. This is one of those where you’re working through as hard and as fast as you can, while keeping a solid pace. It is a total forearm fryer by the end. I got through 5 full rounds and the cleans on round 6, which is about where I anticipated I’d end up. I tried to get to the toes to bar in round 6, but was just a little too slow and tired to get any reps in. Great workout and a real smoker, like always, headed into the weekend.

Stay classy.
