The CrossFit Diaries: All the Front Squats!

After an all around quality weekend I was looking to get back to the gym.  I did go see the Body World exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum on Saturday, which was awesome! Not gruesome or creepy at all. It was informative, interesting and a really cool way to spend an afternoon. I highly recommend it if it comes to your area.

Strength/Skill:

Front Squat- 3 x 5 (add 5 lbs from last week)

Workout of the Day:

5 Rounds for time:

10 Single Arm Kettlebell Thrusters (5 each)

20 Kettlebell Swings

10 Pull Ups

*12 minute time cap*

More front squats! It was good to work on them again. Warmed up and then used 295 lbs for my 3 sets. Solid weight and started to get challenging at the end. Nothing crazy and there were no missed reps, but I can feel them today. If we do them next Monday I’ll be up into 300 lbs territory, which will be good.

The WOD read much easier than it was. The thrusters and pull ups weren’t too tough, but the kb swings are what really burned you out. I finished under the cap, just under 11 minutes at 10:40. It was much tougher than I expected, but it was good to knock it out and get it done.

CrossFit Open starts on Friday and we’ve got a game for guessing the first workout in the gym right now. I guess 15 minute AMRAP of thrusters and toes-to-bar. I’m sure it won’t be that, but it just felt right to put down. It is also a workout that scares me to think about. We’ll see what it is, but for now, it’s all about gearing up for the open.

Stay classy.
