The CrossFit Diaries: Speak of the Devil

I had a short exchange on Twitter on Tuesday about least favorite exercises with someone. I said burpees are by far my least favorite thing. We just don’t get along, but I need them. It’s a crazy kind of love-hate that I have. Well would you look at what we had in the workout:

Strength/Skill:

12 minutes to build to a heavy Hang Clean Double

Workout of the Day:

Complete as many rounds as possible in 10 minutes of:

5 Hang Power Clean

5 Push Press

5 Burpees over the Barbell

Did some serious hang cleaning. Got 1 rep at 275 lbs and attempted at 295 lbs. I got it up, but didn’t get under it. Felt good to throw some heavy weight around and it was good day overall. Nothing crazy, but it felt good to move that kind of weight.

The WOD is another one of those that reads way nicer than it is. I knew the burpees would be the killer for me, as they always tend to be. I started off at a blistering pace, but once I hit round 5 I hit a wall and just had to keep pushing myself to go forward. I finished with 7 full rounds plus the full set of hang cleans in round 8. Spoke with Jason afterward and he said that anything in the 6-8 rounds range was pretty good. I felt good and knew I did well. Also got humbled. Barrett did 12 rounds. Dudes a freak. I will get there some day, but damn, that is impressive.

Feeling a little sore today, but that’s mostly due to the fact that my calorie intake has been low this week. Haven’t been eating a ton, so working to make sure I’m eating enough, especially since the CrossFit Open starts this week. I’m just over 260 lbs now, so hopefully I’ll cross under it by the end of next week so that I’m back int he 250 range. That would be swell.

Stay classy.
