The CrossFit Diaries: 14.3

So I’m dialing back the blogging on this a little bit, because I do not want to be the guy that is constantly talking about CrossFit. I love it, and it is great, but I also am not one of the culty types who is a little too into it. I’m not sure what my cadence will be moving forward, but I’ll hopefully find the right balance. For today, I’m going to discuss the 14.3 Open workout.

Workout of the Day:

CrossFit Games Open 14.3

Complete as many reps as possible in 8 minutes of:

10 Deadlifts at 135/95 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

15 Deadlifts at 185/135 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

20 Deadlifts at 225/155 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

25 Deadlifts at 275/185 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

30 Deadlifts at 315/205 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

35 Deadlifts at 365/225 lbs

15 Box Jumps (24″/20″)

This sucker is a monster. The weight and reps escalate, which is downright mean. The box jumps are more of a time suck than anything else. You also need to change your weight out on your own, so that takes up some time as well. I knew I could do well at it, just wasn’t sure how high on the ladder I’d climb given the time cap.

I finished with a respectable 113 reps (23 deadlifts in the round of 25 at 275 lbs). If I could do it over again, I’d push the pace on the box jumps more so that I could get more work on the deadlifts in. They take a toll as you escalate the weight. Overall if anyone is able to finish this thing entirely, they’re most likely not human. Tough, but fun workout and one I actually really enjoyed.
